Technology 'Reduces Work Travel Need'

More than a third of business executives believe technology has reduced the need for work-related travel.

However, most believe IT cannot replace a good old-fashioned face-to-face meeting.

Almost 40 per cent of 3,000 business travellers indicated their travel had reduced, according to a Barclaycard Business Travel study.

Despite the rise of technology, four out of five said they preferred meetings with colleagues to video-conferencing.

While most people considered a mobile phone an essential part of the job, they wanted technology to allow them to use their phone for more than voice communication.

Denise Leleux, from Barclaycard Business, said: "The need for technological advancements is designed to save travellers' time and money.

"Travel technology is constantly evolving, enabling them to do the things they want regardless of location.

"The future growth of business travel is inextricably linked to the advancement of technology - be that technology to book travel, in-flight technology or payment technology."

She said the next few years would see advancements across a range of devices and services.
